When you're preparing for a long-distance move, one of the most important things to keep in mind is the payment policy. At Charming Movers, we follow all federal and state regulations to protect both our clients and our team—and that includes collecting full payment the day before delivery.

Why Is Pre-Delivery Payment Required?

1. DOT Compliance

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), for interstate moves under a binding estimate, movers are required to collect payment before delivery. This is to ensure that customers are not surprised by final charges and that drivers are not left unpaid for their work. (FMCSA Rights & Responsibilities)

At Charming Movers, we require all balances to be satisfied the day before delivery, ensuring there are no delays or confusion at the destination.

2. Maryland Household Goods Movers Act

In Maryland, movers are required by the Household Goods Movers Act (Md. Code, Com. Law § 14–3101 through § 14–3105) to provide written estimates and follow strict guidelines on charges. We comply fully with these regulations and emphasize transparent, upfront billing.

What Happens If Payment Isn’t Received in Time?

If payment has not been received by the time our truck arrives for delivery, your delivery will be delayed. In accordance with our company policy and FMCSA regulations, our crew is not contractually permitted to unload until payment is confirmed.

Upon arrival, the moving team contacts our office to confirm payment was received in full. If payment is not yet processed, delivery cannot proceed. Any delay in receiving payment may result in additional fees to cover extra time, labor, or rescheduling.

Accepted Payment Methods

We offer secure, convenient options to ensure your payment is processed without delay:

  • Instant Wire Transfer (preferred)

  • Credit or Debit Card – subject to a 3.99% processing fee

Please plan ahead to ensure your payment clears before delivery day.

Final Thoughts: Protecting Your Move

Being prepared with payment isn’t just about compliance—it’s about making your move as stress-free as possible. A delay in payment could lead to:

  • Extra labor or waiting time charges

  • Missed delivery windows

  • Temporary storage or redelivery fees

To stay on track:

  • Ensure your payment is submitted at least one day before delivery

  • Contact our office if you have any questions about your total

  • Keep a record of your payment confirmation for peace of mind

At Charming Movers, we’re committed to keeping your move on schedule, legal, and professional—every step of the way.
